History

It was the summer of 1975 when Francisco MacClure, his father Salvador MacClure and a partner embarked on what was to become the beginning of their history in the dairy product market.

Located in the San Francisco Valley in Chile's Maule Region, Loncomilla Dairy Farms Ltd began operations with a Fresh Cheese that was distributed in the Maule Region and surrounding areas.

In the middle of the 1980s, with 150 cows for fresh cheese production and after the appearance of the "light culture" in Chile, Loncomilla Dairy Farms had to modify the elaboration of its Fresh Cheese and reduce the amount of cream used to make it by 50%.

In 1992 Francisco MacClure Armanet, who had bought the entire company, decided to use the surplus cream to make handcrafted ice cream. And, after tests and consultancies and his insistence that the cream be used, he managed to produce an ice cream with characteristics that had not been seen in Chile before.

The origins go back to a traditional ice and salt machine where, after tastings with relatives and friends, he and his wife Marianne Lyon decided to make "Premium" quality Traditional Frozen Desserts.

So, in a small shop located on the dairy farm itself, they began making the ice creams that were initially sold in San Javier, Talca, and the surrounding areas, with around 100 units sold every week.

After its success with local consumers and after developing the ideal formula for producing these ice creams, Loncomilla Dairy Farms decided to take another step.

While maintaining its family business profile and the characteristics of its traditional Frozen Desserts, in 1995 the company began distributing ice creams to other regions in Chile.

Thus, in 1997 close to 1,200,000 units were produced, considerably more than the initial numbers. In just a year the company was able to capture 9.8% of the local ice cream market, competing neck and neck with companies that were already consolidated in the sector.

By 2000, San Francisco de Loncomilla was producing far more than a million units per year, giving it a presence that began to be noticed throughout Chilean territory.

In mid-2002, with its quality and name consolidated, it began an expansion process into different Latin American countries, preserving the natural and handcrafted nature of all of its products.

With 38 different flavors, San Francisco de Loncomilla has managed to capture 40% of the national Premium Frozen Dessert market, a success that it has taken as a challenge to continue providing its customers with a Natural Premium-quality Frozen Desserts.
